STORIES

It all begins in Talkouncheh, a small village in central Persia where rugs are not merely decorative objects, but an integral part of everyday life. There, a young man named Heshmat learns that every knot is the result of a choice, and every pattern tells a story: that of an ancient knowledge, passed down from generation to generation, bearing witness to the value of time and craftsmanship.

Years pass, and that ancient knowledge crosses the borders of Persia to reach Perugia, in the heart of Italy. A compact, harmonious city, shaped by stone and soft light. Perugia welcomes this distant tradition and offers it a new space in which to express itself. This is how Mondo d’Arte is born: a bridge between East and West, between memory and contemporaneity. Classic rugs carry with them the breath of Persia, while modern pieces emerge from a dialogue with European taste, designed to inhabit diverse interiors without losing their identity.

The physical store soon becomes a place of encounter. Not merely a shop, but a space in which to pause, listen and touch. Over time, the tangible dimension is joined by a digital one: a window open to the world, designed for those who seek authenticity even from afar, and who recognize the value of what is made with care.

TREND

Fashion, design and textile craftsmanship recognize the rug as a unique means of expression. Within it, creative space becomes an opportunity to tell stories, shape aesthetic narratives and give form to beauty. Craftsmanship and art coexist, resulting in a creative act that produces a tangible, singular object - a vessel of tradition and an interpreter of contemporaneity. A rug never loses its value; time and care only enhance its worth.

FLORAL TREND

Floral aesthetics take shape in multiple forms. In Persian tradition, the garden is a symbol of life and renewal. Contemporary design revisits the floral element, reinterpreting it by placing traditional rugs within modern spaces. A floral rug, whether classic or contemporary, transforms the space it inhabits into a garden, reworking a natural leitmotif and bringing the outdoors indoors.

GEOMETRIC TREND

Visual narratives built around geometric elements play with textile space and fully explore its potential. Geometric rugs take shape both in classic forms, often woven according to nomadic traditions, and in contemporary pieces, where the geometry of the past meets the artistic trends of the present.

MINIMAL TREND

Minimal aesthetics are not expressed through figurative elements, but rather through their absence. Minimal rugs are characterized by small motifs and solid fields of color, in tones that may be soft or bold. This aesthetic encompasses both traditional rugs, such as gabbeh, and contemporary design pieces.

BRIEF GUIDE TO OUR SELECTION

The aim of this brief guide is to help readers enter the world of Mondo d’Arte and gain a deeper understanding of our product categories.

CLASSIC

Classic rugs represent an excellence of textile craftsmanship and are, in the collective imagination, rugs par excellence. Entirely hand-knotted using traditional techniques passed down from generation to generation, they embody a timeless product category, perfectly suited to furnishing and enhancing any space, and available in a wide range of sizes, colors and patterns. Further divided into Persian and Oriental rugs (such as Afghan, Pakistani, Caucasian and others), classic rugs tell stories of cultures, territories and traditions. They are named after the city, tribe or province in which they are produced, each defined by its own distinctive style and specific expertise. From an aesthetic perspective, they are characterized by geometric, floral and monochromatic patterns, as well as by a variety of textile fibers and levels of fineness.

MODERN

Our collection of modern rugs is composed of a curated selection of design pieces, defined by a contemporary aesthetic and chromatic profile. Crafted in Persia and finished by hand, they represent the new frontier of textile design, perfectly suited to dressing contemporary interiors. Distinguished by bold, solid colors and forward-looking abstract or geometric patterns, they form a seamless bridge between tradition, design and the future.

ANTIQUE AND VINTAGE

Antique rugs represent a unique and invaluable heritage. Preserved with the utmost care, they tell stories from the past while bringing them into the present. Most of our vintage rugs are Persian, aged between 30 and 99 years. Precious pieces, they are distinguished by their uniqueness and rarity.

TRIBAL

Our selection of tribal rugs is defined by its distinctive aesthetic and folk character. This collection comprises hand-knotted rugs crafted by weavers from nomadic or semi-nomadic tribes of Iran, Afghanistan, the Caucasus, Turkey and Morocco. Tribal rugs embody the heritage of these cultures, serving as vessels of symbols and unique narratives.

MONOCHROME

Our monochrome selection includes various types of rugs, both classic and modern, characterized by a monochrome aesthetic, perfect for any need and setting.

FIGURATIVE

Our figurative rugs are distinguished by the presence of placed designs. Available in various types and sizes, they stand out for their originality and elegance.

KILIM

The term kilim describes a specific and distinctive type of rug, namely flat-woven pieces without the characteristic pile. The creation of a kilim is therefore a true process of hand weaving, rather than knotting on warp and weft. Defined by simple and unmistakable geometric patterns, kilims are predominantly made of wool, sometimes with a cotton warp.
